Earlier I said I would go to the park to do some work. Well I got to the park and then it sort of dawned on me my main bit of work (work as in not working at the hotel bar work) is… editing.

Managed to read a few chapters of my book and then I went back to edit.

The problem with having a good rig to edit on, is that StarCraft 2 running at full spec is only a click away. Grumble.

Edit is cool, I’ve just been watching all the footage and ordering and then marking it up for the edit really. I have been so busy at placement I haven’t been able to get cracking. I think tomorrow in the day I will make a sizeable dent.

It’s a music video for a band called Beasty Traps, cool bunch of guys. Helping out some friends with the edit - it’s nice to work with good footage though. Should be a great video when all is done.

Hotel bar work is alright, after a six week hiatus as I finished up placements. It was nice to come back and have people remember me and ask where I have been. Even though I was only working there for two or so months? Nice to earn a few pennies. I’m also going to be taking half of my work earnings and putting them straight in to a savings account. I am also going to be a lot more frugal. No more impulse buys.

No idea for my minor piece yet. Blimey. I know that I will probably produce a very short, very simple little drama piece. Unless a documentary opportunity comes up and slaps me in the face. Doubtful.

Feeling alright, hope I can juggle work with these running jobs around the country. Technically I work for zero hours contracted. So if I can’t/don’t want to work I don’t have too. But I’d rather always say yes to work otherwise I get pushed off the list. I also have been off for ages, so not too good. I can work weekends easily and one of the weeks is quite empty so I should be able to juggle it.

Been playing StarCraft 2, really loving it. But I can see where the skill comes into play. Skill which I have none of. It’s not like FPS, you can’t get lucky. I reckon in online play I would get decimated. I shall wait to a few of my friends are up and running and play them over Vent, way more fun.

Starting work at Lion TV tomorrow. It’s snuck up fairly fast. Looking forward to it. I am used to starting in new places these days. Just wonder what I will actually be doing. Probably researching, but what exactly?

Back on the old 8:19 in the morning. Urgh. My friend is living at Turham Green during her six weeks placement. If I was there I would be one stop away from work. I could get up at 9 easily! The mind boggles. Meh, when I am in a good sleep groove getting up at 6:30 is fine.

I feel for commuters as in my example I need to get up at 6:30, so that means bed by 11 really, midnight if I am busy. If my vege-body clock is going to have any chance at all in the day. But I get home from work at about 7:30? leaving me with 4 and half hours to eat dinner, relax a bit, work on my current projects including edits. But anyway, I don’t want to do extra work when I have been at work all day.

I guess I am going to have to live in Bethnal Green or Battersea, something similar after this last year. I hope I can get moving in to London and get work pretty soonish. I am sure I will have to hang with the rents for a little while, but it will be nice to move on and start the next chapter in my life.

Currently racking brains for my minor project, but I just draw blanks. I am concentrating on personal projects at the moment. My minor will come to me. Just not immediately. I have decided to go for a short character/subject led doc, hopefully something will rear its head.

Band is going well, some solid practicing has been put down. I just need to get better so I can personally apply polish. But I am not that rusty can keep time fairly for hardcore/thrash metal. Also both songs have odd time parts. I play in 6/4 on the first and 3 in our second track. It’s a really cool sound actually, not by my doing but my guitarists. The three beat down is pretty sick. I need a double pedal. But, I just had to splash out on a new RAID drive for editing because my last one broke (crappy USB 2.0 anyway). But that was no way in my budget. And a pedal falls way behind me want of a wetsuit, fixed gear bike and a surfboard. Not to even mention the cost of living and the expenses I am going to have to cough up for my minor and major projects. Joy. Fuck money.

Going to go camping at Croyde Bay or similar soon to get a day of surf in and a deserved break from Lion TV and bar work. Will look into it.

I think that’s my life covered. It’s going alright. I will look at it a bit more purposefully when I have knocked off the required six weeks work placements, filled in the logbook and have got a minor idea sorted/in the works.

Three weeks now done at Passion Pictures. Really enjoyed working there and got in to a good groove. I should hopefully be going back after a stint at Lion TV.

Big hair is big.

Got to see my sister at her degree show showing off her work. All great stuff and very proud of her for getting a first. Only problem is I have to now top that! Grr!

Back to Bournemouth for a week to pick up on bar work and then back in London it is for another three weeks at home and early morning train travel. The death of my brain.

I don’t mind the fast train to East Croydon, so I might actually look in to feasibility of a bus to Croydon in the morning and then getting on the 15 odd minutes train. The constant stop start and slow rocking sends me to sleep. I also do not fit well in a train chair. Far too broad shouldered and my knees poke way out of the comfortable commuter zone chart for sitting opposite strangers.

Been changing my fashion recently. I am shunning sweatshop worked items as I feel they do not represent the true cost of materials on this earth. I would rather pay £15-20 and have one great t-shirt produced by a worker being paid the correct amount for the materials and labour they invest. Than to pay £10 for three poor quality tees and be funding an unsustainable, abusive method of human exploitation.

My ideals of vegetarianism that I base my life on are slipping away to an even bigger problem I want to tackle. Me being a vegetarian is a drop in the ocean compared to the exploits of the human race. Which includes the suffering of animals.

People need to face up to the real cost of things in our world. As consumers we are too happy to buy our food and meat from supermarkets for example and have become lazy. I intend to shape and discipline myself better through the growing of my food and discipline in purchasing habits. This is my new outlook.

Existing in the current world and the industries I (and others) work in I feel becoming a ‘freegan’ or attempting to shun society and it’s ways is not possible. Am I really going to put down my iPhone, stop listening to music, my iMac or even the kettle? Not a chance. I couldn’t do that. I have trouble enough securing work, relationships, willingness to push on in life, and self-promotion with my gadgets helping me. Without them I would be a hermit.

I aim to promote a life of balance between the two variants of life, meeting in the middle, an equal share of giving and taking.
